Year 12 student Amy is making waves in her fundraising efforts for the Camp International Jambo Kenya Expedition, a transformative journey that 26 pupils from Â鶹ŮÀÉ are embarking on. This once-in-a-lifetime expedition will see students working on essential community projects in Kenya, including tree planting, building key facilities, and engaging in income-generating activities alongside local residents.
To help fund her trip, Amy recently undertook the challenging Edale Skyline route, a demanding 21-mile trek through the stunning Peak District during the half-term break. The route features steep climbs to three prominent trig points: Win Hill, Brown Knoll, and Mam Tor. Demonstrating incredible grit and determination, Amy completed the arduous walk in under nine hours.
“This expedition is incredibly important to me,” Amy explained. “I believe it will help me acquire vital life skills, experiences, and teamwork and leadership qualities, as well as provide an opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture.” She is particularly excited about the chance to witness wildlife on safari and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people she will meet.
While Amy is enthusiastic about the adventure ahead, she admits to feeling nervous about being away from home for four weeks. “I know that, in the end, it will be worth it for this unique experience,” she reflected, acknowledging the significance of the trip.
So far, Amy has raised more than half of the funds needed to cover her flights, vaccinations, and travel insurance. Her creative fundraising initiatives include selling unwanted items on Vinted, baking and selling delicious cakes, and attending local car boot sales. The challenge of the Edale Skyline hasn't deterred her ambition; Amy is also planning to run a half marathon and is actively seeking a part-time job to help her reach her fundraising goal.
Amy’s dedication and perseverance are truly inspiring, not just for her peers but for the entire school community. If you would like to support Amy in her quest to achieve her fundraising target, you can donate to her GoFundMe page by clicking .
